Original Paint 65 Mustang

Original Paint, One owner from 1965 until recently, 289 V8, power steering, power top, and automatic transmission, highly original and collectable driver.

In a world full of resto-mod, barn finds, and full restorations, we forget what it feels like to drive a genuinely original classic car. We sure did until sitting behind the wheel of this highly original 1965 mustang convertible. Thanks to the surviving warranty card this car was sold new in 1965 to a lady named Peggy in Glendale, California. This car never left her possession in Laguna Beach until 2018. That is a 54-year relationship with a car. Peggy, obviously cherished the car from new with copious service records dating back to 1972. While we found records of multiple carb rebuilds, countless shock replacements, and the occasional brake flush, however, there is no evidence of paintwork. This car is wearing its original paint. Sure it has some age, but it is in remarkable shape for its age. The metal is also in excellent condition thanks to the California air. This car has never been neglected, and it shows.

The first thing you notice is how tight and original everything feels. From the exterior door handle to the window crank to the ignition key, everything just feels correct. The power top also functions properly and latches tightly. The original 289 V8 quickly starts up without any drama or hesitation. Sift the automatic into gear, and you will be smoothly gliding down the road. We can’t stress enough how well this car drives. Strong power under acceleration, steering straight and true even while under heavy braking, and functioning gauge clusters. Even the high beam indicator light on the gauge cluster lights up. Everything you interface with, the white and chrome steering wheel, the dainty shifter, the delicate turn signals, transport you to another time. This is a turn-key classic with 65,903 miles. As a collector car specialist for over ten years, we rarely claim original miles on a classic car. Unless service records are indicating the odometer over the years. That is precisely the case with this car. Now it is your turn to add some more miles.
